* Small tree or shrub with smooth reddish-brown bark. Grows in canyons along Wasatch Mountains.
* Five-petalled fragrent flowers grow in impressive racemes 2 to 4 inches long.
* Leaves are shiny but poisonous to browsing animals.
* The fruit ripens from red to black when ripe, each containing a single seed. Ripe fruit is pleasant but astringent when raw. Makes good jelly. Raw seeds are poisonous (which is generally typical of all stone fruits) so do not swallow or eat the seeds.
