Red-tailed Hawk
  Buteo jamaicensis

* Most common and widespread hawk in North America.

* A red-tail by the name of “Pale Male” has become a celebrity for nesting on a fifth avenue ledge across from Central Park for several years now.

* Many color variations.

* It is a soaring hawk as with other buteo hawks.

* It feeds primarily on rodents. Also feeds to a lesser extent on snakes, lizards, and birds.
