Killdeer
  Charadrius vociferus

* One of most common and successful plovers due to its fondness for human modified habitats. It will nest in the islands in parking lots, athletic fields, gravel rooftops and driveways.

* Famous for its broken-wing act in an attempt to lead predators and observers away from its nest.

* Feeds on insects, beetles, snails, grasshoppers, earthworms, small vertebrates, and seeds.

* Call sounds like “Killdeer! Killdeer! Killdeer!”
