Zapus princeps

* Found throughout the intermountain region of U.S. and Canada.

* Prefers lush growths of grasses and herbs near water in moist mountain meadows and riparian thickets. Uses willows thickets in drier areas.

* It feeds primarily on seeds. Nocturnal. Good swimmer.

* It breeds in June and July and has a litter of 2-7.

* Tail 5-6 inches, body 3 ½ to 4 inches.  Dark back, light colored belly.

* Large hind feet; can jump 4 to 6 feet.
